Lord if You Wish, You Can Make Me Clean

So often I believe that Jesus wants to do great things for everyone, except for me. I know. It sounds so lame! But maybe this is true for you too.

I believe that God can do miracles. I believe God can transform hearts. I believe God can heal and cure and restore broken situations. I believe He can do it for you. But… does He want to do it for me? Probably not.

Todays Gospel hit me. Hard.

With his “face to the ground”, the man with leporsy asks Jesus “Lord, if You wish, You can make me clean”.

I wonder what was going through this man’s heart and mind as he brought himself, face down, to the feet of his Saviour. I wonder if he had pictured this interaction countless times before in his mind wondering “Should I ask? What do I say? What if I get my hopes up and He doesn’t want to heal me? Maybe I just shouldn’t ask at all”.

I wonder what it took for this man to place himself at the feet of Jesus and in great humility, and great faith, beg Jesus for a miracle.

And Jesus responds “I do choose. Be made clean”.

Immediately, the leprosy left him. Immediately, this man’s life was changed forever.

I think most times, we are afraid to beg God for what we need because we assume he doesn’t want to do it for us. He can do it… but He probably doesn’t want to.

When did we start believing that God couldn’t and wouldn’t work miracle in our lives? When did we start believing that God wasn’t for us? When did we start believing that God didn’t care?

Today, Jesus says to me, and to you, when we approach Him in humility and faith with the questions and fears on our hearts…

“I do choose”.

I do choose to do great things for you. My mercy is not just for others, but for you.

I do choose to heal you. Even when you think you are too far gone.

I do choose to work miracles in your life.

All we need to do, is ask.
